Homemade solar panels have many benefits. First, they mean purchasing materials which can be bought locally. Second, the savings in energy mean they quickly pay for themselves. Finally, they help reduce use of non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels. Homemade solar panels can be a major boon to any home and even some small businesses. A homemade solar panel can be made in several ways. There are simple electricity generators, air heating banks and water warming heat exchangers. The homemade generators are not the most efficient source of solar electricity, but can add to the house anyway. Air heating banks can be made from simple black PVC tubing and then used to regulate temperature throughout a home. Water warming heat exchangers, the most efficient homemade system, can be made with black PVC and a large, well insulated tank buried in the yard. Most of these parts can be purchased in your local area, keeping money home and shipping to a minimum. As everyone knows, energy costs keep rising. Simple homemade solar panels can reduce your dependence on outside energy. This means you save money, which can be spent in other areas. It doesn't usually take long to save the money you put into the project. The last good reason for using homemade solar panels is the reduction in non-reusable resources. In the current world economy, fossil fuels, especially oil, are becoming a choke point on all fronts. The ability to use less fossil fuel will mean less long term dependence on rapidly dwindling resources. Therefore, fewer people will have to spend time defending international interests in politically volatile regions. Consider all the different points. Locally purchased materials keep money local and shipping costs down. Savings in energy can be real and immediate. Reducing dependence on fossil fuels is good for everyone.
